Xilam Balam

Xilam Balam is a St. Paul-based multidisciplinary artist, muralist, ceramicist, and music producer born in San Antonio, Texas. His Xicano identity drives all of his art forms, which span airbrush, stone carving, mosaic, digital design, and hip-hop. A 2018 McKnight Ceramics Fellow, Balam has spent over twenty years studying Maya and Mexica glyphs, creating individually stylized epigraphy drawings. He co-founded Electric Machete Studios, a Twin Cities Indigenous and Latinx art and music lab, and his murals can be found across Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
