Olbram Zoubek

Olbram Zoubek (1926–2017) was a Czech sculptor whose tall, slender figures became icons of modern Czech art. Trained at Prague's Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, his work drew deep inspiration from Alberto Giacometti. Zoubek gained international recognition for creating the death mask of Jan Palach, the student who self-immolated protesting the 1968 Soviet invasion. His sculptures are permanently exhibited at Litomyšl Castle, and his Memorial to the Victims of Communism remains one of Prague's most visited public artworks.
