Michael Sailstorfer
Michael Sailstorfer is a Berlin-based German sculptor born in 1979 in Velden, Bavaria. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Olaf Metzel, then earned his MA at Goldsmiths College in London. Known for transforming everyday industrial materials into poetic, often humorous sculptures, Sailstorfer has turned bus shelters into living rooms, police cars into drum kits, and truck tires into storm clouds. His work explores temporality, transformation, and transience. Collections holding his work include the Centre Pompidou, the Walker Art Center, and the Hamburger Bahnhof.
