Lyle Motley

Lyle Motley is an oil painter, drawer, and tinkerer from Colorado whose work blends narrative storytelling with dreamlike abstraction. Rooted in ceramics and sculpture, his practice expanded through years of commercial illustration, mural painting, and playing music with the Lyle and Sparkleface Band. Motley creates sculptural paintings by bending and brazing steel rods, filling spaces with custom-cut panels, and finishing in oils. His work has been exhibited at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles. He is, by his own admission, "completely obsessed with smearing paint on things."
