Knut Steen
Knut Steen (1924–2011) was a Norwegian sculptor known for monumental works in bronze, marble, and stainless steel. Born in Oslo, he trained at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts under Per Palle Storm before spending decades working from Italy. His most recognized piece is the Whaler's Monument in Sandefjord — a rotating bronze of four oarsmen that has become a city icon. Steen's public commissions span Norway, including the Olav Kyrre monument in Bergen and a controversial statue of King Olav V. The Midtåsen Sculpture Park in Sandefjord is dedicated to his life's work.
