Karen Sontag-Sattel
Karen Sontag-Sattel is a Minneapolis sculptor known for large-scale public works that transform community narratives into tangible form. Based in Northeast Minneapolis, her practice centers on collaborative metalwork and concrete sculpture addressing themes of peace, friendship, and social change. Her notable works include Phoenix Rising (1996), a 4,000-pound sculpture cast from melted guns at the Hennepin County Government Center, and Bell of Two Friends (2001), a monument to the sister-city relationship between Minneapolis and Ibaraki, Japan, on Nicollet Island.
