John Pugh

John Pugh is a world-renowned trompe l'oeil muralist who has created over 250 large-scale optical illusion murals across the United States, Mexico, Taiwan, and New Zealand. Born in Illinois in 1957, he studied art at California State University, Chico, where he later received the Distinguished Alumni Award. Working from his studio in Ashland, Oregon, Pugh creates what he calls Narrative Illusionism — murals that first trick the eye, then engage the mind with layers of cultural and historical meaning.
