James Tyler
James Tyler is an American sculptor based in New Hampshire known for his monumental Brickhead installations — colossal ceramic heads that weave together pre-Columbian, African, Asian, and Western sculptural traditions. Working in hand-fired terra cotta, Tyler creates works that feel both ancient and unmistakably contemporary. His public sculptures stand at Purdue University, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and across the American Southwest. He has received the Massachusetts Governor's Award for Merit and the Copley Society Award for Sculpture. Tyler says, "My ceramic sculptures piece together the universal myths that you find in all cultures."
