Jack Cartlidge
Jack Cartlidge (1924–2006) was a Sarasota sculptor renowned for his innovative copper repousse technique — heating and hammering metal sheets to create large, hollow sculptures that rival the appearance of solid bronze. After moving from Oklahoma to Florida as a teenager, he built his artistic practice in Sarasota, founding Cartlidge Architectural Art, Inc. in 1960. He taught sculpture at New College of Florida for thirty years and created over a dozen major public works across the city, including the iconic Titans series and the politically charged Nobody's Listening at City Hall.
