Helaman Ferguson
Helaman Ferguson is a mathematician and sculptor who carves complex mathematical surfaces into stone and bronze using diamond chainsaws and hand tools. With a PhD in mathematics from the University of Washington, Ferguson spent seventeen years as a professor at Brigham Young University before becoming a research scientist. He developed the PSLQ algorithm, named one of the top ten algorithms of the twentieth century. His monumental sculptures stand at institutions including Macalester College, Stony Brook University, and UC Berkeley, transforming abstract equations into forms you can touch.
