Harry Bertoia
Harry Bertoia (1915–1978) was an Italian-born American sculptor, designer, and sound artist who studied at Cranbrook Academy of Art before making his mark with the iconic Diamond Chair for Knoll in 1952. He went on to create over fifty monumental public sculptures, blending metal, light, and space into works that transformed lobbies, plazas, and atriums across the country. His later Sonambient sound sculptures — forests of slender metal rods that sing when touched by wind or hand — earned him a singular place in twentieth-century art. He recorded eleven albums of their music from his barn studio in Barto, Pennsylvania.
