Harriet Whitney Frishmuth
Harriet Whitney Frishmuth (1880–1980) was an American sculptor celebrated for her joyful bronze figures of young women in motion. Born in Philadelphia, she studied sculpture in Paris under Auguste Rodin before establishing her studio in New York City. Frishmuth often worked with professional dancers as models, most notably ballet dancer Desha Delteil, whose grace inspired many of her best-known works. Her sculptures earned recognition from the National Academy of Design and were exhibited internationally. She remained active well into the twentieth century, creating work that captures the exuberance and freedom of the human body in motion.
