Gordon Schumaker
Gordon Schumaker (1920–) was a Minnesota fiberglass sculptor known for creating larger-than-life roadside sculptures across the Upper Midwest. His most famous work, the 28-foot Big Ole Viking in Alexandria, was built for the 1965 New York World’s Fair. Schumaker also sculpted the giant Smokey Bear in International Falls and an oversized Bluegill in Orr, Minnesota, helping define the beloved tradition of colossal roadside Americana.
