George Bassett
George Bassett (1925–2023) was a sculptor from Winnebago, Minnesota, known for his masterful bronze works created using the lost wax technique. After trading cigarette rations for art lessons while serving in Italy during WWII, he studied art at the College of St. Thomas. His most prominent works include bronze busts of Martin Luther King Jr., Vice President Hubert Humphrey, and Sigurd Olson displayed at the Minnesota State Capitol. He spent decades farming and teaching while sculpting from his barn studio on the family homestead.
