Geir Hjetland

Geir Sverre Hjetland (born 1955) is a Norwegian sculptor from Hoyanger who lives and works on Kvamsoy in Balestrand, on the Sognefjord. Trained at Vestlandets kunstakademi and Bergen School of Arts and Crafts, he works across materials including stainless steel, Corten steel, and aluminium, seeking what he calls solutions at the boundary between the mechanical and the organic. His public commissions span western Norway, including the twenty-meter Tell Teigen monument in Hoyanger. In 2020, he received the first cultural prize awarded by the newly formed Sogndal municipality.
