Dyre Vaa
Dyre Vaa (1903–1980) was one of Norway’s most celebrated sculptors, second only to Gustav Vigeland in shaping the country’s sculptural tradition. Born in Kviteseid, Telemark, he trained at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts before traveling across Europe. His major works include fairy tale sculptures on Oslo’s Ankerbrua bridge, the swan fountain at Oslo City Hall, and the Ludvig Holberg statue outside the National Theatre. Vaa received the King’s Medal of Merit in gold and was made a Knight of the Order of St. Olav. His work is collected at the Rauland Kunstmuseum in Telemark.
