Duane Pasco
Duane Pasco (1932–2024) was an American artist who dedicated his life to preserving and revitalizing Pacific Northwest Native-style art. Raised in Alaska among Indigenous communities, Pasco — of Irish and English descent — became one of the foremost non-Native practitioners of Northwest Coast carving. He taught at the renowned Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art and created totem poles installed in Seattle, Sitka, and Bergen. A canoe carver, illustrator, and speaker of Chinook Jargon, Pasco mentored generations of artists from his workshop on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
