Don Osborn
Don Osborn was a chainsaw carver based in the Finland, Minnesota area. In 1982, he was commissioned to create a monumental statue of St. Urho, the fictional Finnish saint, from a single tree trunk. Originally planned at thirty feet, the finished carving stands eighteen feet tall after a decayed section shortened the timber. The sculpture — a giant head with no body — has become one of Minnesota's beloved roadside landmarks, enduring decades of North Shore weather with help from community members who seal and repair the wood.
