Daniel Chester French

Daniel Chester French (1850–1931) was one of America's most prominent sculptors, best known for the seated Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, he studied in Boston, Florence, and Paris before establishing himself as the foremost American sculptor of the Beaux-Arts tradition. His works range from the iconic Minute Man in Concord, Massachusetts, to monumental figures at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. He reportedly considered the Ruth Anne Dodge Memorial one of his favorite works.
