Charles Caldwell

Charles Edward Caldwell is a North Minneapolis muralist and painter whose illustrations have celebrated the African American experience for over 40 years. Born in Arkansas and raised in North Minneapolis since age seven, Caldwell works across portraits, glass mosaic, wood carvings, watercolor, and large-scale murals. He is the artist behind the iconic Welcome to North Minneapolis mural on West Broadway and a Prince Purple Rain tribute. A dedicated community mentor, Caldwell serves on the Lundstrum Performing Arts Board of Directors and has been an artist-in-residence at numerous Minneapolis public schools.
