Michael Roy, known as Birdcap, is a myth-making muralist and comic artist from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He studied painting at Memphis College of Art and discovered street art while living in South Korea, where the Birdcap character was born. His densely colored, cartoon-influenced murals explore themes of grief, friendship, and political upheaval through a lens of childhood nostalgia. His work spans continents, from Seoul to Memphis to Saint Paul, always blending the personal with the fantastical.
