Betsy Bowen
Betsy Bowen is a woodblock printmaker and children's book illustrator working from a converted Lutheran church in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Winner of the Minnesota Book Award and the John Burroughs Riverby Award, she's illustrated more than a dozen books, including Antler, Bear, Canoe and Plant a Pocket of Prairie. Beyond printmaking, she paints murals, builds giant paper mache puppets for the town's solstice pageant, and plays electric bass in the town band. She's lived on her North Shore homestead since the late 1960s, carving woodblocks of northwoods wildlife between tending horses and chickens.
