Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr.

Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr. is a Detroit-based letterpress printer and artist internationally recognized for his bold, type-driven messages of social justice and Black power. A self-described "humble negro printer," Kennedy discovered letterpress nearly at age forty during a visit to Colonial Williamsburg, left his corporate career, and earned an MFA in graphic design at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He now operates Kennedy Prints! in Detroit, producing exuberant, colorful posters and handbills that borrow words from civil rights heroes like Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Frederick Douglass, and Sojourner Truth. His work has been exhibited at Poster House, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Library of Congress, and the libraries of MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and featured in the New York Times, the Economist, and Hyperallergic. His 2024 monograph *Citizen Printer*, published by Letterform Archive, collects over 800 reproductions of his letterpress prints.
