Edward Clark Potter
Edward Clark Potter (1857–1923) was an American sculptor celebrated for his mastery of animal and equestrian statues. Born in New London, Connecticut, he studied at Amherst College and the Académie Julian in Paris under Antonin Mercié and Emmanuel Frémiet, becoming a skilled animalier. He frequently collaborated with Daniel Chester French, contributing horses to major monuments including the Columbus Quadriga at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. His most famous solo works are Patience and Fortitude, the iconic marble lions guarding the New York Public Library.
